Historical Alanya
Alanya Castle
Built in the 13th century by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, this 6.5km walled fortress with 140 towers dominates the city skyline. The Red Tower (KΔ±zΔ±l Kule) is an architectural masterpiece offering panoramic views.
Dim Cave
Discovered in 1986, this 360m long cave is Turkey's second largest show cave. The stunning stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years. The constant 12Β°C temperature makes it a cool retreat in summer.
Alanya Harbor
Dating back to Roman times, this historic harbor was a key naval base for the Seljuks. The medieval Tersane (shipyard) built here in 1227 is one of the best preserved Seljuk maritime structures.
Red Tower (KΔ±zΔ±l Kule)
Built in 1226, this octagonal tower is Alanya's most iconic landmark. The 33m tall structure was constructed using red bricks, giving it its name. It now houses the Ethnographic Museum.

Alanya's History
Hellenistic Period
Founded as "Coracesium", a pirate stronghold that resisted Roman control until 67 BC when Pompey defeated the Cilician pirates.
Seljuk Conquest
Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I captures the city, renames it Alaiye, and builds the iconic castle, shipyard, and Red Tower.
Ottoman Era
Incorporated into the Ottoman Empire by Gedik Ahmet Pasha. Becomes part of the Cyprus province.
Modern Alanya
Renamed from Alaiye to Alanya by Mustafa Kemal AtatΓΌrk. Tourism begins developing in the 1960s.
